The classical sciences, taught freely.
Structured courses in the Islamic tradition, built lesson by lesson from the texts students have always started with. Every source named, every citation checkable, every correction published. Free for everyone, permanently, with no advertising.
Two ways in
Whichever you pick, you end up in the same lessons. The difference is only which question you are asking.
By level
You are new and want to know where to begin. Five rungs — Foundation to Dawra — each naming the books studied there and what you can do by the end of it.
Route twoBy course
You already know the science you want — grammar, fiqh, hadith. Go straight to it and see which book comes at which level inside.
Beginning with al-Arbaʿūn al-Nawawiyya
Forty-two hadith gathered by Imām al-Nawawī (d. 676 AH), each chosen because he considered it a foundation on which the religion turns. It is where students have begun for eight centuries, it is accepted across all four schools, and it is finite.
The curriculum
Every subject has its reading order published — which book comes at which level. 2 of 9 have lessons written so far, and each card says which.
Arabic
Reading the language the sources are written in — grammar taught on the hadith you are already studying, not on invented example sentences, until you can parse a line yourself.
4 lessons 02Beliefs
What Muslims hold to be true about God, prophethood and the hereafter, and how the classical schools argued for it.
4 books mapped 03Qur’an
Recitation, the rules of tajwīd, and reading the text with the classical commentaries rather than around them.
2 texts in the library 04Hadith
The recorded words and practice of the Prophet ﷺ, the science of how they were transmitted, and how a report is graded.
6 lessons 05Fiqh
The law of worship and dealings — purification, prayer, fasting, zakāh, ḥajj, and then contracts, property and inheritance — taught within a named school rather than as a blend, so a student can follow one line of reasoning to its end.
13 books mapped 06Spirituality
The inward sciences — sincerity, repentance, the diseases of the heart and their treatment in the classical manuals.
3 books mapped 07Etiquette
Adab: how a Muslim conducts themselves with God, with parents, with neighbours, with strangers, and with the text itself.
1 book mapped 08Prophetic Stories
The lives of the prophets and the sīra of Muḥammad ﷺ, told from the early sources with the weak material identified as weak.
1 book mapped 09History
What actually happened, from the first generation onward — including the parts later retellings tend to smooth over.
1 book mappedThree commitments
Free, and never otherwise
No tuition, no fees, no paywall, no advertising. The commitment is written into the corporation’s founding documents, where changing it means a filing with the state — not a decision taken quietly.
Nothing is taught anonymously
Every lesson names the person who taught it and the book it teaches from, and every claim inside it carries its source. You always know whose lesson you are reading and where to check it.
Corrections are public
Errors in this field are found by readers. Every correction is logged where anyone can see it, with the date and what changed.
The library
The editions our lessons cite, recorded so any claim here can be traced to a printed page. Everything taught on this site is our own work; other people’s scholarship is cited, not hosted.
The limits, stated plainly
Alyph Academy teaches texts. It does not issue fatwā, and no lesson here is a ruling on your particular situation — for that, ask a qualified scholar who knows your circumstances.
It grants no degree and no diploma. A certificate of completion records that you finished a course of study; it is not a professional qualification and it is not licensed or endorsed by any state.
And it is early. 10 lessons are written and there is no video of our own yet. Every lesson names the person who taught it and the book it teaches from, so you can always see whose work you are reading. The site says so on every page rather than waiting until it looks better.
